5U AdvancedTCA Chassis

Description

FREMONT, California, July 19, 2006 – Elma Electronic Inc., a global manufacturer of electronic packaging products, has announced a new 5U AdvancedTCA chassis with full redundancy. There are dual redundant fan trays, shelf managers, and A/C power supplies. The shelf managers and A/C power is optional.

Side-to-side cooling is achieved via a plug-in fan tray with dual 170 CFM fans with PWM (pulse width modulation) control on each side of the card cage. The redundant push/pull configurations of the fans offer higher levels of reliability. If one fan goes out, the fan on the other side of the unit can still provide adequate cooling until repaired.

The standard PICMG 3.0 chassis utilizes 48V DC input, a common requirement in central office applications. However, Elma has found many outside the CO arena enjoy the excellent features of ATCA, but need power supply options. The 5U ATCA chassis features an AC input, so that the unit can be plugged directly into a conventional wall outlet. The new N+1 version offers two 700W or 1200W power supplies as well as optional dual shelf management integration. The chassis is ideal for designs that need the high-performance and functionality of ATCA, but prefer power supply options.
The 5U chassis offers a unique 5-slot ATCA backplane that is also versatile for prototyping. Full Mesh, Replicated Mesh, and Dual Star topologies can be implemented on the same backplane. It also has options for plugging or cabling to Elma’s IPM Sentry Shelf Manager or other shelf managers.

The chassis is a 19" rackmount version with rugged steel construction. For serviceability, the filter tray and fan tray are separately removable. Other chassis features include Elma’s unique design of the board mating receptacle (patent pending), which provides secure grounding, accurate alignment and accepts wide tolerances of the alignment pin spacing.

The lead-time is 6-8 weeks.

About AdvancedTCA
AdvancedTCA has several key features including Gigabit/Terabit per second bandwidth across each shelf, 150-200W per board and 3 Kilowatts per chassis power, and accommodates larger (8U x 280mm) boards on a 1.2 mm pitch, which allows larger/taller components and more space on each board. The PICMG specification for ATCA (PICMG 3.0) had over 100 participating companies.
