Exceptionally High Shear and Peel Strength Adhesive

Description

Master Bond Inc., Hackensack, N.J. has introduced EP31, a two component room temperature curing epoxy adhesive for high performance structural bonding applications. In addition to featuring lap shear strengths exceeding an amazing 4600 psi, EP31 also has a high peel strength exceeding 40 pli.  This is quite distinct from many other strong structural epoxies whose rigidness cause low peel strengths. The tensile modulus exceeds an extraordinary 410,000 psi. The service temperature range of the EP31 is -50 to 120°C  (-60 to 250°F) and it exhibits excellent resistance to many chemicals, including water, oils and fuels.

EP31 is convenient to use. It has a long working life up to an hour and good flowability.  Its mixed viscosity is 2,000 to 3,000 cps. While room temperature curing is effected in 24 to 36 hours more rapid cures can be effected is as little as 2 hours at a low 90°C (200°F).  The EP31 system is also available in a non-drip version called EP31ND.

Master Bond EP31 bonds well to a wide variety of substrates including many metals, plastics, rubbers, ceramics, and glass and has low shrinkage upon cure.  The cured adhesive is a superb electrical insulator with a volume resistivity of 1.5 x 1014 ohm-cm, a dielectric constant of 3.94 and a dissipation factor of 0.050 at 100 KHz. The optically clear EP31 is also available in a full range of colors and comes packaged in pint, quart, gallon and 5 gallon containers.
