Second-Gen Industrial Battery Storage Powers New Paradigm

Description

Tesla founder Elon Musk envisions the scalable Powerpack system as a way to someday store enough solar energy to power the world. The newest iteration, the Powerpack 2, which doubles the previous version's energy density, will settle for storing and managing the energy needs of any industrial or commercial operation ranging from 200 kWh to 100+ MWh.

The turnkey solution provides twice the energy density of the previous Powerpack, and seamlessly integration into multiple levels of the grid. A new inverter significantly simplifies the installation process of the entire Powerpack system by integrating a number of previously independent components into the inverter itself. Tesla says the inverter is "the lowest cost, highest efficiency and highest power density utility-scale inverter on the market."

These systems are capable of 2 or 4-hr continuous net discharge power using the grid tied bi-directional inverters. The systems supports applications including peak shaving, load shifting and demand response for commercial customers while offering renewable firming and a variety of grid services at utility scales, and has been used at public utililites, stadiums and even South Africa's largest natural sanctuary.
