Creform Corporation has introduced a new concept in AGVs well suited for manufacturing operations where space is limited for delivering materials to various processing operations, light assembly and where light duty transportation of materials is required. Many different frame configurations are possible and the example shown features a flat deck for carrying boxes, totes and small packages while its compact dimensions allow it to travel in space restrictive areas where most AGVs could not fit. To further its usefulness, this AGV is outfitted with a hitch for towing lightweight trailers. In addition, its low cost make it well suited for entry-level users to try out an AGV system.
The AGV consists of a cart built with the Creform System of pipe and joints and a bolt on Creform AGV drive unit. This keeps the frame’s weight to a minimum while providing the flexibility to allow the AGV to be easily modified. The unit shown measures 34" L x 18" W x 37" H. This single direction vehicle follows a peel and stick magnetic tape guidepath that is easily installed, and if necessary repaired and modified. It also responds to commands from magnetic tape strips placed on the floor perpendicular to the guidepath eliminating the need for programming. Typical routes would be a simple loop with multiple stopping points or point A to point B deliveries and pickups. The unit has a minimum turning radius of 12" utilizing its slow speed.
The unit is powered by a Creform AGV model # FHS-A20020 12 volt drive system using one deep cycle AGM battery that will operate for one normal 8-hour shift. A charger, which can be mounted on the vehicle, plugs into any standard 115 volt, 60 HZ, 15 amp outlet that will fully recharge the battery overnight. For multi-shift use the depleted battery can be exchanged with one that is fully charged. For safety, it has an audible warning device, flashing light, non-contact object detector, safety bumper and E-stop. Creform offers many other options and accessories, but due to the size, simplicity and basic configuration of the FHS-A20020, this AGV is best suited for simple applications that can utilize the basic capabilities of this unit.
