Toughened Epoxy Adhesive for Prolonged 500°F Service

Master Bond Inc., Hackensack, N.J. has developed EP126, a temperature resistant adhesive system with continuous service capability at 500°F (260°C).  This unique high performance two component epoxy adhesive compound can also withstand temperatures as high as 700°F (370°C) for limited time periods. The toughened, epoxy resin based EP126 makes remarkably strong bonds with outstanding chemical resistance.  Unlike other heat resistant epoxy resin formulations, EP126 features significantly enhanced peel strength as well as improved lap-shear properties, up to 2740 psi.  The cured adhesive exhibits these superior adhesive characteristics with both metallic and nonmetallic substrates including the recently introduced liquid crystal polymers and other thermally stable engineering plastics even after prolonged high temperature service.  Also, these and other important performance properties are maintained even upon long term exposure to a wide array of chemicals, such as strong mineral acids and bases, salt solutions, petroleum fuels and lubricants as well as most organic solvents. 

The Master Bond Polymer System EP126 compound is comprised of a high viscosity liquid and a powder component.  They are mixed together to form a heavy paste like liquid.  Weight loss upon 1000 hours exposure at 500°F is less than 2% yielding excellent dimensional stability and unmatched durability. Master Bond Polymer System EP126 is the preferred choice for high performance adhesive applications requiring long service up to and at 500°F and/or exposure to hostile chemical environments.
