Infrared LED Exhibits 100 deg Angle

Description

In response to customer requests for a surface mount infrared light source with a wider beam angle, TT electronics OPTEK Technology has expanded its IR SMD product line with the development of an 880nm wavelength infrared light emitting diode that delivers a 1008 inclusive beam angle. Designated the OPR2800 Series, the high power GaAIAs LEDs are housed in a surface mount chip carrier package that matches a PLCC-2 footprint, and are ideal for use as single IR LED sources as well as arrays of SMD package IR LEDs. According to Alan Bennett, vice president of sales and marketing for OPTEK Technology, the construction of the LED package allows the device to be used in a variety of applications. “The SMCC package features a flat lens window, which allows a wide beam angle for the LED,” explained Bennett. “This package design makes the infrared LED suitable for both single device as well as array applications.” The OPR2800 Series infrared LED is also ideal for applications in non-contact position sensing, data detection systems, machine automation, and optical encoding, Bennett continued. The OPR2800 Series infrared light emitting diode features an 880nm wavelength with a 1008 total beam angle. Forward voltage is 1.5V maximum (If=50mA), with continuous forward current of 50mA; reverse voltage is 30V, with reverse current of 100mA (Vr=2.0V). Power dissipation is 130mW at 258C. Operating temperature range for the IR LED is -408C to +1008C. The device is available in both bulk and tape and reel packaging, and is RoHS compliant.
