IR thermometer module simplifies temperature monitoring and control

Description

The TN9 module can "see" across an air space to measure surface temperature of objects and materials from -27 to 428°F (-33 to 220°C). The TN9 modules feature adjustable emissivity, operate over an ambient temperature range of -10 to 50°C and deliver N.I.S.T traceable accuracy of ±2% (or 2°C) with a resolution of 0.1°F (0.0625°C). The TN9 module comes standard with 1:1 optics and outputs a serial data stream providing target temperature and ambient temperature. The miniature TN9 module, made possible by combining an advanced MEMS infrared thermopile sensor with advanced optics and custom ASIC circuitry, can fit just about anywhere with a length barely 1.5 inches, width 0.5 inch and weighing only 9 grams. Features TN9 modules simplify temperature monitoring and control for a variety of applications including motion control systems, discrete parts manufacturing, continuous processes or consumer appliances. Metris Instruments has begun production of the TN9 Series of infrared temperature sensing modules that are available at prices starting under $30.00. A development kit is also available for $250.00 that includes an LCD display and a serial port for easy interface to a PC to facilitate development of OEM products. Additional TN9 Series introductions are planned with the IR sensors rated for a 6:1 distance-to-spot ratio. Applications The TN9 Series of infra-red temperature sensor modules can be designed into a variety of products such as motion control systems, automated machinery, residential and commercial climate control instrumentation, occupancy detection, consumer appliances or custom consumer products to simplify temperature monitoring and control.
